COCKSHELL, Margie SEA SHELLS |
| Code: |
LE C53 - Limited Edition Giclee Print |
| Description: |
Margie Cockshell was born and raised in Apia, Western Samoa in the
South Pacific, where she spent her childhood years in a large family of
nine brothers and sisters, from a Polynesian (French/German) mother and
father of Irish descent.
In 1975 she emigrated to New Zealand with her family and was educated
in Auckland. At the age of 19 she set out to travel and work overseas
taking with her a camera and plenty of enthusiasm. Margie spent time in
many beautiful places including the Whitsunday Islands, far North
Queensland, Fiji, New Caledonia, Tahiti, the Cook Islands and many
visits home to Western Samoa, together with her husband and 2 children.
Margie discovered silk painting in 1987 and found it was the perfect
vehicle to capture the sights, sounds and fond memories of childhood
encounters and subsequent travels. It allowed her to combine a love of
nature and tropical ambience, with the vibrant rich colours found in
plants, wildlife and the underwater world of these unspoilt tropical
paradises, which she hopes will be respected and conserved for future
generations to enjoy.
The ancient art of silk painting is further enhanced by Margies
individual interpretation and her use of detailed imagery and beautiful
colours. |
